GEED FOUNDATION-Sierra Leone. The GEED Foundation (GF-Sierra Leone) was established in September 2010 under the laws of the Republic of Sierra Leone as a Sierra Leonean Non-Governmental Developmental Organization with a focus on women, girls, small scale enterprise and agriculture broadly defined. GF-Sierra Leone is women and girls-focused, and seeks to promote women’s strategic empowerment in education, commerce and agriculture. GF-Sierra Leone is open to strategic and sustained collaborations; thus, it aims at partnering with the following categories of women’s groups and organizations in the design and implementation of its core mandate:

  • Non-Governmental Organizations.
  • Community-based organizations (including social groups, age grades, female traditional rulers,
    market women associations etc.).
  • Faith-based associations.
  • Young women associations.
  • Professional groups such as journalists, lawyers, teachers, business executives, social workers,
entrepreneur organizations and the security sector.
  • Academic and research organizations and
    associations.

Objectives

GF-Sierra Leone has four broad strategic objectives that define the parameters for its operations. Namely, to:

a) Provide a platform for women across all levels of society to exchange, share, and harmonize strategies for women’s leadership and build coalitions to the economic empowerment and educational opportunities for women in Sierra Leone.
b) Increase the opportunities for girls to have access to quality education, nutrition and adequate clothing to foster the chances of a better future and enhance their potential to better contribute to society’s development through educational research, and better informed skills to maintain decorum at the domestic levels from a more informed perspective.
c) Promote the twin approach of mainstreaming gender and the need for enhancing the opportunities and therefore potentials for the girl child while at the same time mainstreaming economic empowerment in all gender mechanisms, policies, and institutions. d) Influence policy development and implementation on women and girls in Africa through rigorous research, strategic advocacy, and documentation.

Mission

GF-Sierra Leone’s mission is to institutionalize and mainstream women, education and commerce by enhancing women’s opportunities and leadership capacities through promoting constructive, innovative and collaborative approaches to small and medium scale enterprise, education and agriculture in Africa.

Vision

GF-Sierra Leone envisions a non-discriminatory environment for women and girls that fosters equality, educational opportunities, economic empowerment, ownership and full participation of all, particularly women, in the decision making process on education, health, commerce and agriculture.

GEED Foundation provides scholarship to less advantaged primary school children in rural Sierra Leone, West Africa. Your support of approximately US$20 a month or US$120 a year will change the life of a child. Through this initiative, you can support the education and development of a less advantaged child throughout their school carrier. Without someone like you, a child may never receive education and become another statistics in an already difficult world. Please make a difference and support a child.
